Manual Therapy
This includes numerous hands on techniques involving joint manipulation/mobilisation, soft tissue techniques such as muscle release or deep therapeutic massage and nerve mobilisation techniques all of which are carefully selected to promote tissue healing and restore normal movement and function.
Ultrasound
Therapeutic Ultrasound is used to optimise the soft tissue healing process. Ultrasonic waves are delivered to the area of injured tissue. No discomfort is felt during this treatment.
Acupuncture
Both Western Medicine and Tradional Chinese Medicine(TCM) approaches to Acupuncture may be used. Acupuncture is an alternative therapy that can be used to promote pain relief, decrease inflammation, soft tissue healing and a decrease in muscle tension/spasm. If selected, all patients are screened for any contraindications to treatment and written consent obtained.
Biomechanical Analysis
Biomechanical analysis is the detailed study of body movements. This is performed when there is a requirement to establish and treat the factors that caused the condition and not just the symptoms in isolation. This is particularly relevant for overuse injuries in the upper and lower limbs.
Therapeutic/Sports Taping
Therapeutic taping can be a very useful treatment to offload painful areas in the initial stages of injury management. It can also be used to facilitate muscle activity and restore normal movement patterns in the later stages of treatment. Both conventional tapes and new generation Kinesio tapes may be used.
